Divorce In Alabama
There are two main types of divorce in Alabama: contested and uncontested.
Contested divorce is the more traditional route, typically involving legal battles, disputes over assets and property, custody, and child support, and often requires court intervention to resolve conflicts between spouses.
On the other hand, uncontested divorce is usually a much smoother process, as it involves both parties agreeing on all aspects of divorce, including how their property will be divided, how custody will be handled, and more. This is a cheaper, quicker, and less stressful method of divorce. In the vast majority of situations, we encourage our clients to pursue a collaborative resolution for their good, though this is not always possible.
High-Conflict Divorce
For some, divorce can be especially challenging when the spouse you’re divorcing is highly combative or intent on making the legal process as strenuous as possible. Whether you’re married to someone with a personality disorder, or they have a history of domestic abuse or substance abuse and you know they will put up a fight, contested divorce is likely the route you’ll have to take. If that’s the case, we will fight diligently for a result that keeps you safe.
Can I DIY My Divorce?
Can you? Yes. Should you? No. While DIY or “Do It Yourself” divorce might be convenient and cost efficient, it can lead to more problems than it can solve. DIY templates or documents are typically created as a one-size-fits-all solution. The issue with that is every couple and marriage is unique. What worked for one couple’s divorce may not work for yours. Templates online usually lack the language necessary to make them legally compliant in your state for your needs, which can lead to costly mistakes that will likely require a divorce lawyer to correct.

Christopher truly cares about his clients and the kids involved...they treat you like family not just another case . I would recommend them to anyone going thru divorce or a custody battle
The Christopher P. Word attorney law team is very kind, compassionate, knowledgeable and effective. My case was civil and family related, so it was extremely emotional for me. I highly recommend this firm for legal matters, especially family law.

We have left multiple messages, sent texts, and even visited his office in person, only to be told repeatedly that Attorney Word is "in court." While I hope he is providing better service to the clients he is supposedly in court for, we have seen no indication of fair representation or even basic professionalism in our case. To add insult to injury, our request for a refund has been ignored, which is no big surprise.
An attorney should never leave their clients in the dark, especially during such an emotionally charged and time-sensitive situation. This experience has been deeply frustrating, disappointing, and emotionally draining. I would strongly caution anyone considering retaining his services.

What sets him apart is his refusal to bend to political pressure, always standing firm in his principles and fighting for what is right. His professionalism and integrity are second to none, making him not just a great lawyer, but a great man as well. If you need a lawyer for a custody case, look no further—he is the best choice you could make.

Again to anyone that read my review and took it to heart, I am so very sorry. Please forgive me, I was deceived. If zero stars were an option, tbat is what my review would be, but if you decide to retain him , my advice is, if he doesn’t have the time to meet you in his office or provide a contract when you pay him thousands of dollars, SEEK FAR SUPERIOR COUNSEL, I wish I knew who that would be, but thus far my experience with attorneys is the same as doctors…. They speak to you in a condescending manner which in itself is disrespectful and they WILL NOT TAKE THE TIME TO LOOK AT THE EVIDENCE YOU HAVE, because they spend years cultivating their relationships with DHR, your enemy.
