The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because in the end Mr. Word did the right thing and refunded my money. I hired Mr. Word to handle my step parent adoption case. The first day we spoke he told us everything we wanted to hear and sounded like the right guy for the job we paid his fee and the next day was suppose to get right to it.after we paid the money we got an email from his paralegal asking for more info to proceed with the case. After that they all became a ghost called several times for any kind of an update and returned every time with oh he will call you back and never got one. They are full of excuses he's out of town, he trued calling you but he has the wrong number, he's in court,etc. After nearly 2 months of this i asked for a refund because it was clear that nothing was being done with my case.i went to his office several times and made appointments to speak with Mr. Word and at one point I was met with he didn't call you im sorry I thought he would have with an appointment.i continued to express that I'm done with this crap and I needed my money back. I made another appointment to have a face to face meeting with him and 30 mins before the meeting I finnaly received a call from Mr. Word and he simply said I'm going to refund your money no explanation or anything. He knew he was wrong for everything. I am grateful he refunded my money however moving forward I would suggest anyone considering this law firm to strongly reconsider

Give me a reason to give more then a one star review! Four months have passed and Mr word has not been a man of his word! He has ignored every phone call every text and every email sent directly to him and staff. If he is a Christian man of his word then he would resolve this.Very unprofessional! Do I need to hire a different firm and report this to the Alabama bar? Hopefully not!

Christopher word is a phenomenal lawyer. He listens and cares. We paid a one time fee and didn't shovel out loads of money. He got us exactly what we wanted in court. He's very blunt and straight to the point and if you're asking for something unrealistic he will be truthful and tell you that. But also point you onto a better path. Today was court date and he showed up and showed out and he ended up getting my case dismissed. The services of Attorney Christopher Word were retained to handle a custody case during one of the most challenging times in my fiancé's life after his daughter's tragic passing. Despite paying close to $6,000 upfront in September 2024, we have been met with silence. After the initial conversation, there has been absolutely no communication. No updates, no progress, and no follow-ups.

We have left multiple messages, sent texts, and even visited his office in person, only to be told repeatedly that Attorney Word is "in court." While I hope he is providing better service to the clients he is supposedly in court for, we have seen no indication of fair representation or even basic professionalism in our case. To add insult to injury, our request for a refund has been ignored, which is no big surprise.

An attorney should never leave their clients in the dark, especially during such an emotionally charged and time-sensitive situation. This experience has been deeply frustrating, disappointing, and emotionally draining. I would strongly caution anyone considering retaining his services.

But this lawyer Mr. Word is not it at all he the worst all he wanted is to take money but did not fight tooth or nail for me or my daughter at all.. Horrible! He lies, mocks his clients & makes deals with the opposing attorneys! Always late to court! It’s time to let people know what he and his assistants, Ashley & the other 2 are really like! He can’t fight a legal battle! His assistant said Chris filed several motions for my daughter. Ala court has nothing with the exception of him being retained by us and than his motion to resign after I fired him. I see him advertising for Etowah, Cullman, St. Clair & Shelby county’s. People don’t do it! He charges a flat $5000 which is not bad but he is definitely not even worth that! His office blocked me on Facebook because I laughed at his “oh so loving and caring adds to go see him for your divorce, custody, etc! Do NOT hire him! He is not a fighter. He goes belly up. His office is even worse! They judge the clients and make accusations. They don’t like gay women! The picture of him on Facebook on 5/24 was the day he was supposed to be representing my daughter but he decided to take a selfie. He is incompetent as an attorney.

This is NOT A CHRISTIAN MAN, I was given false information that he was deacon in his church and if he is, in fact a deacon in a church, he should not be, in fact I believe if he attends church at all, it’s strictly for appearance only. I posted a 5 star review because, HE ASKED US TO DO SO, and after his first appearance in court he said I could get my son back that day, if we passed drug test and I had a place for us stay. My drug test came back positive for thc, and Word tried to convince me I was just not recalling when I used marijuana , or had been with a friend and had forgotten because in his words “ THE TEST LINE WAS DARK, indicating a high content of thc….. I was in tears and said unless you’re asking me to lie I am telling you the test is wrong. So after he tried to convince me I had used drugs, he then says” So you want to pay them 50$ to send it off, I said absolutely, I have never been told that was an option. So my test came back as a false positive. I spoke with his client liaison, Karen, who told me that I should not write the judge a letter, but DHR told me to write the judge a letter. Karen told me they would schedule the isp meeting with DHR and contact me the following week. They did not. I followed up inquiring about the isp meeting Monday Tuesday Wednesday with no response. I inquired if they could get the results of the test. No response. I asked for a contract, dictating the terms of representation, and in tbe contract a card number to keep on file, the day of the month and the amount of the payment to be drafted. No response. Now he’s resigned from my case claiming a breakdown in communication with the mother and to continue would be futile. He refuses to refund any money, because in their words he spent hours on my case. I find that odd since he could not provide a contract in the TWO TOTAL APPEARANCES IN COURT, the last of which he did not even stay to the end of our hearing but assured us , twice, he would be present the following day at the isp meeting…. Needless to say, he did not show and he’s claiming conflict of interest to represent my son’s father, he was on record with DHR as counsel for the parents. However I find it odd he can claim conflict when he never provided a contract stipulating who he was representing and the amount. Plus, my sons father is the one that made the cash and card payments, in his card, not mine, all phone communications went through his father, to me, so if he’s resigning because of breakdown in communication, 1) he had only the incompetence of his office to blame, and if he can’t represent my sons father, and was solely representing me, he violated my attorney client privilege discussing anything with his father. I will report him to the Bar, and they will do nothing but at least I know I have corrected a 5 star review he by no means is worthy of and he also demonstrated the same inadequate counsel to family members and eventually, 2 years later did refund their money. I apologize to anyone who read my first review but I was distraught over my son not getting off the bus and spending 3 hours with his father trying to find my kindergartener, before I finally, under the advice of a different attorney, told me to inform the school that I was told to go to the police and make a missing persons report.
Again to anyone that read my review and took it to heart, I am so very sorry. Please forgive me, I was deceived. If zero stars were an option, tbat is what my review would be, but if you decide to retain him , my advice is, if he doesn’t have the time to meet you in his office or provide a contract when you pay him thousands of dollars, SEEK FAR SUPERIOR COUNSEL, I wish I knew who that would be, but thus far my experience with attorneys is the same as doctors…. They speak to you in a condescending manner which in itself is disrespectful and they WILL NOT TAKE THE TIME TO LOOK AT THE EVIDENCE YOU HAVE, because they spend years cultivating their relationships with DHR, your enemy.

Choosing Mr. Word and his staff during one of the most difficult times in my life, has been nothing short of a blessing from God. The time & diligence he and His office has put into my case is just beyond words. They answer any questions I may have, mind you sometimes the next day because Mr.Word is such a reputable Family Attorney and spends so much time in court fighting for his clients. About 4 or 5 years ago I hired him for $2500.00 n met with him twice n he disappeared. No office ,no answering phone. BASICALLY $2500.00 for NOTHING!!!!!
