What Does Custody In Alabama Entail?
In Alabama, there are two types of custody: legal and physical. Legal custody involves the responsibility to make important decisions regarding the children’s healthcare, education, religion, and more. Physical custody pertains to which parent the children primarily reside with. Both legal and physical custody can be shared jointly by two parents or granted solely to one parent.
Joint custody is preferred by Alabama’s family courts, but if there are reasons why joint custody will not work, we can help you create a plan that outlines visitation, schedules for holidays and special occasions, child support, and more.
Mediation
Mediation is a collaborative process that can give you and your co-parent the most control over the outcome of custody. During mediation, a neutral third party, such as our Cullman custody lawyer, can help you and your co-parent agree on the terms of custody. This is the best-case scenario as it saves you time and money that you would have spent in court, and it ensures that a judge (who doesn’t know your children) does not have the ultimate say over their future. If you’re interested in this alternative dispute resolution, we are more than willing to help. However, if your ex is highly combative and wants to use custody as a way to manipulate or control you or your children, we are willing and able to fight for your rights in court.
How Our Cullman Custody Lawyers Can Help
At Word Family Law Group, we are familiar with the effects that divorce and custody matters have on your children’s lives. It’s difficult for them to adjust to new family dynamics, schedule changes, and bouncing between two homes. That’s why we’re passionate about handling these issues delicately and prioritizing your children’s well-being. You can trust that we will make their best interests our top priority when creating a custody arrangement.
We encourage parents to leave any negative thoughts or feelings about one another out of their relationship with their children. Establishing a civil, or at least semi-civil, relationship with your co-parent can show your children that even though you’re no longer together, you’re committed to doing what’s best for them.

Christopher truly cares about his clients and the kids involved...they treat you like family not just another case . I would recommend them to anyone going thru divorce or a custody battle
The Christopher P. Word attorney law team is very kind, compassionate, knowledgeable and effective. My case was civil and family related, so it was extremely emotional for me. I highly recommend this firm for legal matters, especially family law.

We have left multiple messages, sent texts, and even visited his office in person, only to be told repeatedly that Attorney Word is "in court." While I hope he is providing better service to the clients he is supposedly in court for, we have seen no indication of fair representation or even basic professionalism in our case. To add insult to injury, our request for a refund has been ignored, which is no big surprise.
An attorney should never leave their clients in the dark, especially during such an emotionally charged and time-sensitive situation. This experience has been deeply frustrating, disappointing, and emotionally draining. I would strongly caution anyone considering retaining his services.

What sets him apart is his refusal to bend to political pressure, always standing firm in his principles and fighting for what is right. His professionalism and integrity are second to none, making him not just a great lawyer, but a great man as well. If you need a lawyer for a custody case, look no further—he is the best choice you could make.

Again to anyone that read my review and took it to heart, I am so very sorry. Please forgive me, I was deceived. If zero stars were an option, tbat is what my review would be, but if you decide to retain him , my advice is, if he doesn’t have the time to meet you in his office or provide a contract when you pay him thousands of dollars, SEEK FAR SUPERIOR COUNSEL, I wish I knew who that would be, but thus far my experience with attorneys is the same as doctors…. They speak to you in a condescending manner which in itself is disrespectful and they WILL NOT TAKE THE TIME TO LOOK AT THE EVIDENCE YOU HAVE, because they spend years cultivating their relationships with DHR, your enemy.
